Ah, September. The whirlwind fun pace of summer slows back into a more steady routine. The cozy sweaters and boots come back out to play. It is honestly my favourite time of year.
I also find that with that new routine comes a new busy-ness all of it’s own. If I don’t go into my week prepared, I feel like I’m constantly scrambling and playing catch up. Here are 3 things I do every week so I can take on Monday confidently. 1. Sunday family prep Power Hour: Block off an hour each Sunday to do the top 3-5 things that will set you up for a successful week. Enlist the help of everyone who lives in your house, and work as a team. Pack all of the dry lunch goods for the week for everyone. Put the laundry away and sort the socks. Review/update the family calendar with each member so they are ready for the week ahead. Check in and send follow up appointment emails/school correspondence. Whatever will set you up to start the week strong. 2. Squeeze in some self care: There’s always so much to do that it feels almost ridiculous to stop. But, I’ve learned, reluctantly if I’m honest, that if I don’t take time to recharge, no matter how prepared I am, my week starts off on the wrong foot. So I force myself to take some time to recharge my batteries - whether it’s coffee out with a friend, an extra hot, extra long bath, an hour tucked into a cozy chair with a cup of tea and a book, or even just simply go to bed early. 3. Gather the things: In our house, there are always things that we need to have for the week ahead - swimsuits for swim lessons, special treasures for show and tell, costume pieces for class presentations. Trying to find them the night before (or morning of) that they are needed can create stressful scramble. I go through our family’s week, identify all of the little odds and ends that we’ll need, locate them, and put them all in one spot. Then they’re all findable when they’re needed - and, if they truly have disappeared into the bedroom black hole, I’ve got time to figure out an alternative. I hope these tips help you avoid a case of the Mondays. If they resonate, and you’d like to learn more ways to Tame the Mother Load, check out my website. Mention that you found me through Liz’s newsletter, and I’ll give you $75.00 off my the Taming the Mother Load offering! Here's to being more organized, and less stressed! XO, Kate
